There's something very alluring about Bangalore. As a Cosmopolitan
city, it offers the best of shopping
experiences for everyone, from the cash-strapped to the
cash rich. If Mumbai has its fashion street, Bangalore has
its Commercial street. Not exactly shops on the
pavements, but nevertheless, a good bet for buys.
Bangalore
has a pretty happening fashion scene, and is
at any given time over run by models and designers. The
westerns definitely require a fairly well moulded
body for the best effect,
but the ethnic wear is less demanding. More often
than not, there's an exihibition of an up and coming designer's
lines, and are always worth a second glance.Even when
there isn't an exihibition as such, there are always
plenty of labels to keep the fashion conscious shopper
happy. Leading brands like Addidas, Reebok, Nike, Pepe,
Lee just to name a few are available. So are
cosmetic products by Chambor, Elizabeth Arden,
Chambor, Revlon, Lakme. Designer perfumes by Calvin Klein,
Escada are also available. There's a good collection
of jewellry, shoes and other accessories too.
Bangalore
is famous for its shirts as it is for its sarees. Shirts
on seconds sales in a variety of brands, melange of sarees
and dress materials with some dazzling showrooms all over
the city. Commercial Street, Brigade Road, M.G.Road in the
evening is a shopping experience of a different kind altogether.
Most shops are open Monday through Saturday from 10:00-
20:00. It is possible to get a lower price for one's purchases
by bargaining. In most smaller shops one can actively bargain
for 10-20 percent lower than the prices quoted. This is
not possible in goverment emporia. Shops announce discount
sales for all festive occasions, especially for Ugadi, Ganesh,
Dussehra, Deepavali and Christmas. Prices often vary from
shop to shop, so if one finds that something is too expensive
at a given place, one must be sure to check prices in other
shops as well.
