Hockey,the national sport of India is on the downslide
all across the country and is dying a slow death.But fortunately,Bangalore
is one city where in the sport is very much alive and kicking.This
can be gauged very much by the fact that there are two divisions
in the City Hockey League.Even the inter-school hockey tournaments
are keenly contested affairs with a large amount of school
teams taking part- which goes in a big way to develop the
sport at the grassroot level.The city has a hockey stadium
with artifical playing surface and most of the state,national
and international tournaments are played here.The Sports
Authority of India have got their centre in the city to
harness the hockey talent available in the state.Hockey
in the state is managed by the Karnataka State Hockey Association.With
cricket in the doldrums over the match-fixing affair,it
is a chance for hockey to redeem its lost glory because
after all hockey is the only discipline in which India has
won gold medals at the Olympics.

STATE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION :The
Karnataka State Hockey Association which is the governing
body for hockey in the state is situated in Langford Town,Bangalore
. K.S.H.A have got their own well-maintained stadium with
an artificial asto-turf playing surface,the standard surface
on which modern hockey is played.Most of the important hockey
tournaments of the city are played on this ground.Apart
from this,the stadium has witnessed many a national and
international matches.The Sports Hostel of Sports Authority
of India(SAI) and Department of Youth Services and Sports(D.Y.S.S)
are located in the stadium. The stadium houses a club which
has a Conference Room,recreation room,kitchen and bar. Shortly,
the association plan to have a Fitness centre,Tennis and
Badminton courts,Snooker and Table Tennis tables. Contact

Deccan Herald Super division league with twelve teams participating
in it.The league is well-contested with all the teams fighting
tooth and nail for the title but the Madras Engineering
Group(MEG) team has won the title for six consecutive years
and are well on course to win their seventh title for the
